Many people assume that the function of school can be better if all of the students have same facilities. For example they have same books, same learning equipment, do the job with same steps, ect. Therefore, must be attention the each student (individual) has different character. They have an unique behavior.
Learning is called effective if it have ability to fill the exclusive needs of students who they are different each other. Students have different thinking, feeling, and doing anything. It can be showed when the students are doing their homework, student’s activities, or their exercise. Include when they study about mathematics. Not only when they join mathematics learning at school but also when they do the exercise of mathematics.
I observed a student who studies at Junior High School. Her name is Eko Wahyu Lestari. Her nick name is Eko. She school in 3rd years at SMP N 1 Wates, Kulon Progo, D.I.Yogyakarta. Eko include the student that learns rarely. But she is smart and always gets Top 10 at her class.
I give her a mathematics problem about addition and subtraction of quadratic number. She just looks at the problem. The problem is
(5562 – 4442) = ….
She looks have a serious thinking, full of concentration, and she can’t be annoyed by anybody. After many time, she begin calculate in the paper. After she get the solution, she ask me about her solution, true or false. She describe to me that she found the solution by assumed
556 = a
444 = b
Given
(a2 – b2)= (a + b) (a - b)
= (556 + 444) (556 – 444)
= (1000) (112)
= 112000
So (5562 – 4442) = 112000
May be another student have different behavior when I give them a mathematics problem such as above. It seems that students have the unique attitude that can be their special character. |
